DigitalZen is a small studio in Munich. We build focused apps for iPhone and Mac, and we build them so that the things you write, record and think about stay with you.

Every app we ship does one job. It runs on your device, it lets you take your data out again, and it does not ask you to create an account before it does anything.

Voice to text for the Mac. You hold a key, speak German, English or Italian, and clean text appears where your cursor is. The transcription happens on your Mac.

How we build
Four rules we hold ourselves to.
These are not marketing lines. Each of them has cost us a feature at some point.

On the device, not in the cloud.
Your content is processed where it lives. DreamJournal started out with a cloud transcription pipeline and we took it back out, because a recording of your dream has no business on someone else's server.

You can leave whenever you want.
What you put in, you can get out again, in a format that opens somewhere else. We would rather you stayed because the app is good than because leaving is expensive.

Nothing is watching you.
Our apps carry no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers. Our websites set no cookies at all, which is why you did not have to dismiss a banner to read this.
04
Fewer features, properly finished.
Every feature costs you attention and costs us maintenance. We build the ones that carry their weight, and we would rather ship a small app that works than a large one that almost does.
The studio
Who is behind this
DigitalZen GmbH is a company in Munich, run by Felix Reiners. He has spent 15+ years in digital innovation (IDEO, Deutsche Bahn) and digital product management (startups, scale-ups, Mittelstand), and now builds the products he thinks should exist.
We are deliberately small. There are no investors waiting on a return, and that is what makes it possible to leave your data alone.
